The BPC Youth Group spent a week this summer working in some of the the poorest neighborhoods in Louisville, KY and the surrounding area as part of the Urban Spirit mission project. Our group lived, ate and slept as “working poor” in order to learn more about an American lifestyle that is foreign to us. In 2006 there were an estimated $37 million working poor. These families are often faced with whether to buy gas for the car or pay the electric bill, and there’s never enough food. Facing the challenges of a life in poverty was an eye-opening experience and the first step in helping to narrow the gap between those that have and those that have-not.
