More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single Youth Group:

“Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.”

Since that day, more than $81 million has been raised for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring.

Please join with the BPC Youth Group in helping to collect cans of soup or donations of money to support our local foodbank.

Did you know that if everyone in America spent 1/3 less on Christmas this year, and donated the money to clean water resources, we could solve the WORLD’s clean water crisis?

Advent Conspiracy is a different way to look at Christmas spending. Last year, BPC rasied over $8,000 and donated the money to Living Waters for the World.  Parishioners gave friends, relatives and others a “gift” of clean water instead of another sweater that gets pushed to the back of the closet. The money is being used to support clean water for a village somewhere in the world! We are in the beginning stages of supporting a clean water system, and by next year we should know WHERE we are going to supply clean water.

Recently during Renew, a discussion question was asked by our group leader: What is your favorite thing about Christmas? The answers were varied, but several people mentioned “the music.” If you’re a Christmas carol lover, please join us Sunday, December 18 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary for the “Festival of Lessons, Carols & Candlelight.” This is an interactive service, and one you’re sure to enjoy. Brought to you by the BPC Chancel Choir, with Brian Warford directing. Child care provided for those 3 and under.

The custom of decorating churches and homes with evergreen at Christmas time began in ancient times.  From legends and stories throughout the ages, firs and pines have come to be known as trees of life that represent Christ.

The Chrismon Tree                                        

The Chrismon tree becomes a symbol of our Lord inside our church sanctuary.  The word Chrismon is a combination of the words Christ and monogram.  Therefore it is a monogram of Christ.

Designs for the tree are centuries old, often as old as the Bible itself.  They represent, in symbolic form, the heritage of all Christians.  Each are made with three symbolic colors:  white, showing Jesus’ purity.  Red represents the blood that Jesus shed for you and me, and Gold symbolizes His royal majesty.

These symbolic Chrismons were used by early Christians to identify themselves and to designate hidden meeting places and sometimes to show unbelievers the foundations of their Christianity.  The symbols of the early church serve now and then to transmit faith and belief.  Thus, we have the Christmas Tree.  The lights on the tree represent each person who is in the body of Christ here in our church and around the world.

Youth and Friends at NACOME

RENEW continues on Wednesdays  at 5:45 p.m. with dinner and all-ages activities.

There’s something for everyone whether you’re a member of BPC or just visiting.

Dinner is $5 per person or $15 per family. Reserve your place by emailing or calling the church office at 646-1666.

Adults are currently involved in Advent Conspiracy. We’re reading the book “Christmas is not your birthday” by Mike Slaughter. There is babysitting available for those 3 and under! MAD (Music Art Drama) for ages 4-11. And “712 Underground” for youth.
